Mikhalko Yuryevich, Prince of Torchesk, Grand Prince of Vladimir, Grand Prince of Kiev, was born 1150 to Yuri I Vladimirovich Dolgoruky of Kiev (c1090-1157) and Olga NN (c1120-c1183) and died 20 June 1176 of unspecified causes.

Mikhalko (Mikhail) Yuryevich (c1150-1176) - (Russian: Михалко (Михаил) Юрьевич; Ukrainian: Михайло Юрійович) (died June 20, 1176), Princes of Torchesk (mid-1160s–1173), Grand Prince of Vladimir-Suzdal (1174, 1175–1176) and Grand Prince of Kiev (1171). son of Yuri Dolgoruky

Early years

Yuri Dolgoruky's eldest son by his second marriage, Mikhalko Yuryevich was removed about 1162 from Suzdal by his half-brother Andrei Yuryevich of Bogolyubovo who apparently disliked his mother.

Living, according to VN Tatishchev, in Gorodets (now Ostrov), participated in the campaign of Mstislav Izyaslavich against the Polovtsians in 1168 and in the same year was sent with a detachment of Chorni Klobuky to Novgorod, but was seized by Ryurik Rostislavich and released only in the following year, when he received the Principality of Torchesk from Andrei of Bogolyubovo Torchesk .

From 1162 to 1169 he lived in Ostyor, a small town near Chernigov, but then moved on to a town of Torchesk. Appointed by Andrei of Bogolyubovo to rule Kiev upon the death of Gleb Yuriyevich in 1171, Mikhalko refused to take the throne and sent his younger brother Vsevolod to Kiev instead. He was besieged in Torchesk by another claimant to Kiev, prince Ryurik Rostislavich, but concluded peace with him and was allowed to move his capital to Pereyaslavl. Next year, when Andrei invaded Southern Rus, he broke his ties with Ryurik and swore allegiance to his brother.

In 1170 Mikhalko Yurievich again went to the Polovtsians, defending Pereyaslavl.

Upon Andrei of Bogolyubovo's death, Mikhalko Yuryevich succeeded him in Grand Principality of Vladimir-Suzdal, but the hostilities with boyars of Suzdal and Rostov, who felt neglected by the rise of Vladimir, forced him to leave for Chernigov. The citizens of Vladimir soon called upon Mikhalko Yuriyevich to help them fight against Yaropolk Rostislavich. He defeated this nephew of Andrei Yuryevich of Bogolyubovo's and regained the throne of Vladimir-Suzdal in 1175. Mikhalko died the next year and was succeeded by his brother Vsevolod Yuryevich. He ruled only one year; died in 1176 .

In 1179, after Mikhail's death, his daughter, who was still a child, was married by her uncle Vsevolold Yuryevich to Vladimir Svyatoslavich.
