Moses Merryweather was born circa 1793 in Welbury, North Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom to Richard Merryweather (c1767-) and Margaret Snaith (c1767-) and died 25 September 1872 Clapham, Greater London, England, United Kingdom of unspecified causes. He married Sarah Edwards Taylor (c1815-1910) .
Moses travelled to London for an apprenticeship with a firm that made fire engines and related appliances. He married a daughter or niece (depending on which website you believe!) of principal Henry Lott and in 1830 took over the business, later renaming it Merryweather & Sons. His sons helped him grow the business. His youngest daughter married a furniture millionaire.
