Richard I the Lion-Hearted Plantagenet, King of England, Duke of Normandy, Duke of Aquitaine, Count of Anjou and Maine, was born 8 September 1157 in Beaumont Palace, Oxford, England, United Kingdom to Henry II of England (1133-1189) and Eleanor of Aquitaine (1122-1204) and died 6 April 1199 Châlus Limoges, Limosin, France of unspecified causes. He married Berengaria of Navarre (c1163-c1231) 12 May 1191 JL in Limassol, Cyprus.

Richard was made Duke of Aquitaine in his parents' lifetime, in 1168. He succeeded his father as King of England, Duke of Normandy, and Count of Anjou and Maine in 1189. He reigned until his death.
