Richard of Normandy, Duke of Bernay, Duke of Bernay, was born circa 1054 in Normandy to William I of England (1027-1087) and Matilda of Flanders (c1031-1083) and died circa 1081 in New Forest, Hampshire of unspecified causes. Between 1069 and 1075, Richard died in a hunting accident in the New Forest.[1][2] He was buried at Winchester Cathedral. In a twist of fate, his younger brother, King William Rufus, and a nephew, also named Richard, were also killed in the New Forest twenty-five years later.
