In 1820, Samuel was listed as a head of household in South Hempstead, New York. The household consisted of Samuel and his wife, as well as his oldest daughter. The household was located immediately next door to his brother's wife's family (the Hultsz family). Samuel's parents were on the same page of the census, a few households below.
1830 Census[]
By 1830, Samuel resided with 5 more children in addition to the daughter from the 1820 census: two boys born between 1820 and 1825, and 3 girls born between 1825 and 1830. The family still resided in South Hempstead. The two boys were Israel Eldert (c1823-aft1850) and Willet Eldert (c1821-aft1850). One of the girls was likely Sarah Elizabeth Eldert (c1827-?), but the names of the other two are yet unknown. The household was located immediately next door to his widowed mother Mary Birdsall (bef1767-aft1830).

In 1840, Samuel was listed as a head of household in Hempstead, New York. The household consisted of Samuel and his wife, as well as two sons Willet Eldert (c1821-aft1850) and Samuel Eldert (c1834-?) and seven girls. The youngest three girls were Samuel's daughters Ann Eldert (c1832-?), Mary Eldert (c1837-?) and Martha Eldert (c1839-?). There were also two girls born in the early 1820s and two girls born in the late 1820s. At least one of the older girls was probably not a daughter of Samuel, as she was not listed in the 1830 census. However, Israel was probably accidentally marked as a female, as he is conspicuously missing from the enumeration. The other girl born in the early 1820s must have been born in 1825 if she is a daughter, as she was reported as being born in the late 1820s in the 1830 census. The household was located immediately next door to his widowed mother Mary Birdsall (bef1767-aft1830).
