Martha WEBSTER (daughter of John WEBSTER Jr and Mary MCDANIEL John & Mary married 28 Feb 1713/14) Martha WEBSTER Born 15 Aug 1714 in Baltimore Co., MD. Between May 1757 and June 1758, Samuel moved his family to Seneca Creek in Bedford County, now Campbell County, VA 300 miles by Ox cart. Samuel and Martha lived on land which had belonged to her father, John Webster, Jr. and which had been given to him by his father, John Webster, Sr. Their children were born on this plantation although Samuel had inherited other property from his father at the time of his death in 1739. These tracts were called "Gilbert's Addition" and "Gilbert's Outlet" amounting to about 125 acres and were released to Samuel by Michael Gilbert executor of his father's will in 1740.
These tracts were grants from the Province of Maryland to Gervaise Gilbert in 1716 and 1721. Samuel conveyed both parcels to Thomas Mitchell in 1743. Beginning in 1756 and ending in 1758 Samuel and Martha disposed of all the property owned by them and moved to Bedford County, Virginia. Deeds to John Bond on August 01, 1757 and Corbin Lee on May 24, 2757 list Samuel and Martha as residents of Baltimore County, Maryland. On June 17, 1758, they deeded to John Hayes, property on Deer Creek Run and were listed as residents of Bedford County.
There is ample evidence that Samuel's brothers, Aquilla, Benjamin, and Daniel preceded his family into VA by several years. Aquilla was listed in Lunenburg County in John Phelps' District. Benjamin's half-brother and others were ordered by the Court of Bedford County, VA in August 1754 to survey the road at Little Falling River. This is the same area in he was listed. In 1752, Lunenburg became Bedford County and in 1754 and after 1781 it became Campbell County.
