Sarah "Sally" M. Pickard was born on March 23, 1824 in Ellery, New York to Peter Pickard and Mary Fenton-Miller. She lived in Ellery in her youth.
Sarah married her first cousin, Adam Stom before 1845 and they had three children. They lived in Ellery where Adam worked as a farmer. Adam's parents lived with them at least between 1850 and their deaths. Adam died in 1870 and by 1880, those living with Sarah were Milly Stom, Eben Wallace, and granddaughter Emma Wheeler.
Sarah died on August 3, 1890 in Ellery, New York. Her funeral was at the Pickard Street Church where Reverend Wesley Hotchkiss officiated. She was buried in Red Bird Cemetery.
