Selam was a happy baby Afarensis girl

Salem Afarensis

Salem was raised in Dikika, Ethiopia near the Awash River. Her life on the Awash was hard and she died as a baby, most likely by drowning.

Salem's last name is shortenned from her full species name, Australopithecus afarensis.

Salem fell into a stream at the point where it fed into a lake. Her parents likely never knew what became of her, since her body was left unretrieved in the water where she drowned. Her body became buried in sediments that later solidified into the sandstone that encased her for 3.3 million years.
