Shadrach Roundy was born 1 January 1789 in Rockingham, Windham County, Vermont, United States to Uriah Roundy (1756-1813) and Lucretia Needham (1760-1845) and died 4 July 1872 Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah, United States of unspecified causes. He married Betsey Quimby (1793-1880) 22 June 1814 in Rockingham, Windham County, Vermont.
Shadrach Roundy was baptized in 1831 and became a personal friend and bodyguard to Joseph Smith (1805-1844), the Mormon prophet. Shadrach lived in Nauvoo, Illinois with his family and was the captain of the police there (1841-1846).
Brigham Young 1847 Pioneer Company
Numbered amoung the participants in the Brigham Young 1847 Pioneer Company, than vanguard company of Mormon Pioneers led by senior church apostle, Brigham Young (1801-1877). The left [[Winter Quarters, Nebraska| Winter Quarters on 5th April 1847 and traveled to found Salt Lake City, arriving their on the 24th of July with 142 men, 3 women, 2 children and 72 wagons.
Shadrach crossed the plains with the Brigham Young Company (1847) where he as captain of Thirteenth Ten and Captain of the Night Guard. He was one of the first white settlers to plow the soil in Utah to prepare for the saints who were coming. He crossed the plains an additional four times to help poor immigrants. His personal journal is in the Salt Lake City archives.
