The template or something like it should be used on any page that contains substantial material (more than just facts or a phrase) copied from the English ("en") version of Wikipedia ("WP").

To use this template, just use {{enWP|Page name}} where "Page name" is the title of the Wikipedia article (preferably pasted, for accuracy).

For example {{enWP|Calgary, Alberta}} will show as:

(Thanks to User:JamesTeterenko for the above)

Other languagesEdit

A similar template (slightly more complex) should be used for material from other-language Wikipedias. See Template:EsWP, the Spanish one, and create others as required simply by changing every instance of "es" in that to the code for the other language. They can all be translated by suitably qualified people but should retain an English-language version, right below the native one, for the rest of us to read. I've just produced a French-Wikipedia one (Template:FrWP) using material from the French Central Wikia. It does not have a link to the page history. Maybe they don't need the translation I mentioned above. Robin Patterson 07:49, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Variants using PAGENAME etcEdit

This seems to work correctly even on complex pages such as Wikipedia:Help talk:Macrons. However, the Central Wikia equivalent has changed to a form that uses PAGENAME. Has advantages and disadvantages. See its talk page. Robin Patterson 08:02, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Experts are welcome to adapt enWP and usedwp accordingly. — Robin Patterson (Talk) 12:20, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
