Deacon Thomas Forbush, Sr. was born 6 March 1667 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts to Daniel Forbush (1620-1687) and Rebecca Perriman (1639-1677) and died May 1738 Westborough, Worcester County, Massachusetts of unspecified causes. He married Dorcas Rice (1664-1753) 1692 in Marlborough, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.

Biography

Deacon Thomas Forbush (1667-1738) (sometimes rendered as Thomas Forbes) was the son of Scottish Immigrant Daniel Forbush. He was born in Cambridge but removed to Marlborough and thence to Westborough at which latter place he was one of the first settlers and founders of the church, of which he was a deacon, in 28 Oct 1724. Thomas resided in that part of Marlboro that was subsequently set off as Westboro.

He signed the covenant of the church next after Mr Ebenezer Parkman, pastor elect. His wfe was dismissed from the Marlboro church to Westboro on 25 July 1725. The births of five children are on the Marlboro records.

Will of Thomas Forbush

He made his will 17 July 1733 and it was probated on 11 May 1738 in Worcester County Probate Office records. It mentions his wife Dorcas, and son Thomas.

Settlement of Westboro

The first town meeting for Westboro was held 15 Jan 1718. on 3 Mar 1718, the citizens held the first regular March election and Thomas Forbush was elected one of the five selectmen. In 1718 he was moderator of the town meeting. In 1721 he was elected town treasurer.


Marriage and Family

Deacon Thomas Forbush married Dorcas Rice (1664-1753), the daughter of Edward Rice (1622-1712), one of the most prominent men in Marlborough MA. She was one of the original members of the Westboro Church.
