Obituary

Mr. Thomas Hawkins.

On Sunday, January 12th, 1936, the remains of the late Mr. Thomas Hawk ins were laid to rest in the Woolla cemetery.

The deceased gentleman was a member of a family well known in the Woliombi and Ourimba district. However, for the past 22 years he had lived with his daughter and grandson (Mrs. E. Wallis and Mr. W. Douglas, of Stock yard Flat, near Wingham). The late Mr. Hawkins lived a quiet life, and by those privileged to know him was very much liked. He could tell some interesting stories of when he flrst landed in Australia. The flrst place he could remember was Morpeth, and there the first he could remember was two large pigs, rolling in the mud flats—although only six years of age at the time, he never forgot. There was a family of 12—9 boys and 3 girls. Two sisters and seven brothers predeceased him. The two living members are Fred (Sydney) and Eliza (Bishop's Bridge). The deceased had a family of 13 (6 daughters and 7 sons). Of these two daughters and four sons predeceased their father. The living members are: Mrs. Morris (Dora Creek), Mrs. W. Moir (Gosford), Mrs. E. Wallis (Stockyard Flat, Wingham), Mrs. Greenway (Sydney) and Pierce (Telegraph Point), Thomas (Mangrove Mount), and Clyde (Peat's Ridge). There are 30 grandchildren and 2 great grand-children. The deceased gentleman had not enjoyed the best of health for some time, but only took to his bed on New Year's Eve. He passed away on January 11. He suffered no pain and died in a peaceful sleep. He was a man who worked hard and had done all kinds of bush work. His wife predeceased him 22 years ago. We recently referred to the death of Mr. Hawkins, but there are a few additional particulars in the above.
