‡ General |
There is some disagreement about the parentage of his son Nicholas, who married Anne North. Ken Wills says it was Barbara Slingsby; Genealogics, citing nothing specific for Nicholas but Burke's Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Peerage, Baronetage and Knightage, London, 1938 for the Earl's page generally, says it was Margaret Sawyer, listing him between William and Robert; while thePeerage.com, citing The Complete Peerage, volume I, page 99, specifies no mother. None shows even an estimate of his date of birth.
