Thomas Rogers Jr. was born 1586 in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England to Thomas Rogers (1565-) and Mary Ann McMurdocke (c1565-) and died 12 November 1638 Watertown, Middlesex County, Massachusetts of unspecified causes. He married Grace Ravens (1591-1662) 1616 in England.

Biography

Thomas Rogers was born about 1588 (aged "50 years old" at death). By 1617 he married Grace (Ravens) Sherman, widow of John Sherman. They came from Dedham, Essex to Massachusetts Bay in 1634 & settled in Watertown MA. He was buried at Watertown, 12 November 1638, "50 years old."

His widow married (3) after 1638 ROGER PORTER {1638, Watertown}.

Thomas Rogers was stepfather of JOHN SHERMAN {1634, Watertown}. Another stepson, Richard Sherman, may also have come to New England, and may have been living in England in 1662.

Watertown Founders Monument

He is listed on Watertown Founders Monument, commemorating the first settlers of Watertown, Massachusetts. The town was first known as Saltonstall Plantation, one of the earliest of the Massachusetts Bay Colony settlements. Founded in early 1630 by a group of settlers led by Richard Saltonstall and George Phillips, it was officially incorporated that same year. The alternate spelling "Waterton" is seen in some early documents.
