He married Sarah Ann Smith (1867-1943) 7 September 1884 in Port Macquarie, New South Wales, Australia.

Obituary
The death occurred at the [M]ayo Hospital, Taree, on Thursday morning of Mr. Walter Gozzett Cause.
Deceased was operated on at the hospital about a week ago, and seemed to be making satisfactory progress towards recovery, On Thursday morning he was having his breakfast, being then apparently in a satisfactory state of health, when he suddenly collapsed and died. It is surmised that the intense heat which prevailed during the past few days was the indirect cause of death.
The late Mr. Cause was born on Oxley Island 69 years ago. For over twenty years he was engaged in farming pursuits at Cattai Creek. He is survived by a widow and four children. The children are Mrs. Finney, of Taree; Alfred Gozzet (Harrington), Vivian Stanley (Wallerawang), and Wylie (Coopernook).
The sisters are Mrs. John Albury and Mrs. Joseph Southwell. Mr. George Cause, of Cattai Creek, and Mr. John Cause, of Taree, are brothers.
The funeral was held at Mitchell's Island on Friday, in the Church of England portion of the cemetery.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr. S. A. Bridge.
