OBITUARY - Walter H. Frederick Jr., 81, Topeka, died Dec. 21, 2005. He was born July 13, 1924, at Wathena, the son of Walter H. Frederick Sr. and Theodosia "Pearl" Jones Frederick. He grew up in Wathena and moved to Horton, graduating from Atchison County Community High School. Mr. Frederick served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He later owned and operated Topeka Fence Erectors and was district manager of TOMCO Genetic Giant Seed Corn in the early 1960s. He later owned and operated Frederick Plant Farm. He was a licensed private pilot and a licensed ham radio operator. He was a member of Capital Post 1 of the American Legion and the VFW at Richland. He married Donna Benton in 1950 in Topeka. They divorced; she died in February 2003. Survivors include three sons, Randy Frederick, Los Lunas, N.M., currently stationed in Tikrit, Iraq, and Walter Frederick III and Brad Frederick, both of Topeka; three daughters, Dottie Clark, Topeka, Connie Higbee, Holton, and Sandy Olliso, Dover; four brothers, Herb, Frank and Lonnie Frederick, all in Arizona, and Carl Frederick, Topeka; a sister, Joyce Doty, in Nevada; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Graveside services with military honors conducted by Fort Riley Funeral Detail was held Dec. 27 at Rochester Cemetery in Topeka.
