William Betts was born 23 March 1838 in Hertfordshire, England, United Kingdom and died 11 April 1921 George St, Goulburn, New South Wales, Australia of unspecified causes. He married Rosa Barker (c1848-1923) 5 March 1866 in Wingecarribee, New South Wales, Australia.
He arrived in New South Wales on 9 June 1849 on Diana with his parents, William Betts and Harriet Tolvey, and his sister Mary Ann Betts (1836-1925) as assisted immigrants.

Obituary
Mr. William Betts died at his late residence, George-street, Goulburn, on Monday morning at the age of 83, the primary cause of death being hemorrhage. He was in fairly good health up to three days ago. Mr. Betts was born in England and came to Australia when a boy. He was employed on the railway line at Mittagong as fettler, and later worked in the same capacity at Breadalbane, being one of the first to be engaged there after the opening of the line from Goulburn. Some years ago he retired with a good record. He was well known and respected in the Breadalbane district, where he had resided over thirty years. Mr. Betts leaves a widow, seven sons, and two daughters. The sons are William James, Woodhouselee; Charles, Cullarin; George, Towrang; David, Douglas Park; Ephraim, Goulburn; Ernest, Wallendbeen; and Samuel, Goulburn; and the daughters are Mrs. Kelly, Burrowa district, and Mrs. Land, Eden.
