Obituary
Thursday afternoon last, under conduct of Mr. J. R. Garland, the funeral of the late William Betts Rudder, of East Kempsey, proceeded to the cemetery that side, Messrs. T. Harriott, John Long, H. R. Gray, and F. Gill being carriers ; Messrs. James Campbell, E. O. Woolford, W. Harvey, and O. O. Dangar, pall-bearers ; and the Rev. D. Smith, assisted hy the Rev. G. E. Johnson, the officiating clergyman. The late Mr. Rudder, who is survived by a widow, daughter of the late Capt. Thornton, and one son, Mr. Victor Rudder, of East Kempsey, was a native of Birmingham, England, and came to this country when but a boy, in 1834, and spent practically the most of his 91 years on this river, though he made a break for fottune by going to the Ophir gold rush with his father, similarly as another hrother went to California with his father, the latter two suffering shipwreck in the Rosetta Joseph. Like his brother Mr. Enoch Rudder, of Belgrave, the late Mr. William Rudder was wonderfully well informed, and up to almost the last took a keen interest in affairs that the handicap of age alone prevented his active participation therein.
