William lived with his father until his father died in 1862. He then bought land at Pike Run, Barnhill, in Tusc. Co., Ohio. He never married. This article appears in the Carroll Chronicle, Friday, March 10, 1893: "Wm. Boreland committed suicide Monday last at the home of his brother, Washington Boreland, by using a rope in a hay mow. The body was not found until the following morning. Deceased was a bachelor and lived on his farm, near Pike Run, Tuscarawas county, until four months ago when by reason of age and infirmity he went to live with his brother. His rash act was doubtless induced by feebleness incident to his advanced age (72 years). He left notes to the amount of $7000 together with farm, &c. His heirs are his brother Washington, a half-brother, a sister and the heirs of a half-sister. He was born in Harrison county."
