William John Tuckfield was born 15 December 1881 in Port Fairy, Shire of Moyne, Victoria, Australia to James William Tuckfield (1839-1908) and Mary Ann Patterson (c1851-1931) and died 19 December 1969 Brisbane, Queensland, Australia of unspecified causes. He married Marcella Mabel Monckton (c1881-1954) 12 April 1911 in St Matthew's Anglican Church, Prahran, City of Stonnington, Victoria, Australia.

William "Tucky" Tuckfield was the seventh child of a Wesleyan minister. In 1902 he was registered as a dentist. He went on to become a member of the dental science faculty at the University of Melbourne, retiring in 1959 from the position of acting professor of dental prosthetics.
