Sir William Osler [1] was born at Bond Head, Upper Canada, in 1849 [2]. His father, Rev. Featherstone Lake Osler, was an Anglican (= Episcopalian) minister. He moved to Dundas in 1858.

William was a brother of Sir Edmond Boyd Osler (1845-1924) [3], who founded the investment firm of Osler and Hammond. This firm now (2008) carries on business as OSLER.

In 1888, William Osler became the first Physician-in-Chief of the Johns Hopkins Hospital, [4]Baltimore.
